Let’s Talk: Why Do We Wear Uncomfortable Clothes?

From dresses to jeans and everything in between; at some point since high school;  you would be able to find me wearing something that some might consider overtly tight and/or short.  I’m talking super short denim cutoffs and dresses that have to be pulled down after every two steps.  I’ve always done it and never gave it a second thought until recently.
Last week, I had the unfortunate duty of saying goodbye to my Uncle.  Prior to attending the funeral, my fiancé had to get a pair of dress slacks to wear at the funeral.  He didn’t want to try them on, “Get a size 32, baby” he says.  “Are you sure?” I asked.  “Yep” was his reply.

When we got home it was a whole ‘other story.  There was no time to return them.  As a result, I find myself rolling on the floor cracking up watching him jump up and down while adjusting himself to fit in the pants.
“I go through this all of the time.” I tell him.
“I don’t know how y’all (women) do it.”  is his reply.
Good question…why?  Is it because the super tight clothes show what I’m working with?  Or maybe because I wanted the item so bad that I settled for something too small?  Could it be because I think this is what men?

I can recall many hot days in Texas when I could’ve worn something a bit more comfortable..  Like the time I wore super short white denim cutoffs to a MLB game.  After melting in 100 degrees for 3 hours and several beers; lets just saw that walking to the car involved alot of digging and pulling.  And let’s not even talk about what it took to get those bad boys off when I got home. So, I went through all of that just for my guy to tell me how cute I looked.  But is it worth it?
Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn’t.  Now, the time that I wore a mini with wedges to SXSW may have seemed like a bad idea.  But when it got us backstage access and photo ops with some of my favorite artists; it found to be not so bad after all.

As I grown up, I have noticed that I find myself more and more wearing pieces that make me feel just as sexy and beautiful without all of the style drama that comes along with overtly tight, short shit.
Let’s talk!  I want to hear from you.  Have you or do you wear clothes that aren’t so comfortable?  If so, why or why not??  Let me know in the comments…

  1. I use to be the female who always wore the sexy revealing clothes, tight and short, because I have the body for it. But honestly as I became older, I begin to understand how your attire can send off the wrong message and all clothes aren’t for everyone. It is irritating for myself to wear short shorts and have to constantly pull them down, I just realized that I am just as sexy in my dress pants and maxi dresses, than the too tight clothes or short and that’s just my view. Good convo topic beautiful!

  2. I really liked this post, it was personal and I learnt more about you – you should do more posts like this, honestly. As for me, I’ve never been one to kill myself over style, I value my comfort very highly, and thus, I can barely remember when I’ve worn overly tight or short things. I’ve never worn a mini skirt! Ah, for what? Lol! There’s this Ankara top of mine which is quite tight because there wasn’t enough fabric, but apart from that, barely remember any uncomfortable moments.

Oh yes, I once wore a bandeau without straps and had to always pull it up. I don’t like to be stressed out or have to worry about my clothes, that’s why I mostly wear long sleeves, midi skirts, nice long pants etc. It’s not even about being Christian, it’s just what makes me comfortable. I sometimes buy things that are bigger than my size just because I want it though, lol! At least a size up is better than a size down.

    Great post!

    1. So glad you liked this topic. It’s so important (as women) to feel comfortable wearing whatever you want. Whether its a maxi or a mini…as long as it makes you feel good about yourself. Thanks for commenting!
